This two-day tour is renowned for its immersion into the culture and history of Lake Titicaca, a large body of water that sits on the border between Peru and Bolivia. This lake has been inhabited by the Uros people since pre-Columbian times and is considered a sacred site by many South Americans.
It is also believed to be the birthplace of the Inca God, Viracocha, who founded the Inca Empire in Cusco after his journey from the lake.
This tour of Lake Titicaca is crafted to offer you a one-of-a-kind cultural experience, especially during your stay on Amantani island. You’ll be able to witness the traditional lifestyle of the people living in the area.
Each island has its own history and customs which you will be introduced to through this guided tour. The locals have kept their ancient customs and habits intact, far away from modernity.
For example, the Aymara language, a native language in Bolivia, is spoken by the communities on the Uros Floating Islands. Meanwhile, people on Taquile and Amantani islands speak Quechua.
This two-day Titicaca Lake Tour begins with a visit to the famous floating islands of Uros. Located just seven kilometers away from the city of Puno, you will get to witness how the locals make the most of the limited resources available to them.
Following this, a three-hour boat ride will take you to Amantani Island, taking in the stunning views of the Andes Mountains. Here, you will be able to spend the night with a local family.
On the second day of the tour, you will be visiting Taquile Island, home to people who are renowned for their exquisite handicrafts. Here, you will get a glimpse into their unique culture and traditions.
Please note that the highest point that we will be reaching on this two-day tour is 4050 meters (13287 feet) above sea level. We strongly recommend you spend a few days in Cusco or Puno and acclimatize to avoid altitude sickness.

Puno hotel and hostel pick up

Your epic Titicaca Lake Tour begins with a transfer from your hotel in Puno between 0800 and 0815. We will be driving you to the main boat pier in town. On our way, we will make a quick stop so you can buy some snacks and beverages if you wish.
A local musician will be there to greet you with traditional Andean music when you board. The guide will introduce himself and explain the day’s activities at Lake Titicaca.
We will begin our journey by visiting the renowned floating islands of Uros. As we get closer to the island, you will see plenty of Totora Plants. These are the only vegetation in the lake. Totora Plants are the main dietary source and the foundation of the islands
As we dock on the pier of Uros Islands, the local women dressed in their traditional clothes will greet us. The head of the island will give us a presentation on how they created the islands with the limited resources around them and teach us a few words in the native language, Aymara.
You will have plenty of time to click photos and witness life on the floating islands of Uros. After getting an introduction to life in Uros, you will have the option of embarking on a short ride on the emblematic boat made entirely of Totora Reeds.
Please note that the reed boat ride is a service offered by locals of Uros Island. If you wish to experience it, you can pay them directly. It costs 10 Soles. If you don’t want to ride on a reed boat, you can take our motor boat.
Once on the main island of Uros, you will have the option of buying some local handicrafts or simply taking a walk and witnessing life here.
After enjoying the sights of the Uros Islands, we will embark on a three-hour boat ride to Amantani Island.
You can walk up to the deck and witness the enormity of the lake.
As we will reach Amantani Island, the tour guide will be giving you details of your host family. A family member will meet you as you disembark and will walk you to their house where you will be spending the night.
You will be accommodated in a private room here. Amantani Island is quite secluded from Puno and its remote location has deprived several facilities like running water supply or electricity. This also makes this place a truly blissful one where you will be feeling closer to nature.
You will be having lunch with your host family. If you have special dietary needs, then do let us know at the time of booking the tour so we can do our best to accommodate your request.
After lunch, you will have some free time to nap or take a walk and experience the serenity of the island.
At a designated time, we will be meeting at the main square for a hike up the hill to two iconic peaks on Amantani Islands – Pachamama Mother Earth, and Pachatata Father Earth. You will be getting an imposing view of the lake at sunset from these peaks.
After the guided tour here, we will be hiking back down to the main square and to the family house for dinner. After dinner, the host family will help you get dressed in traditional attire as you will be joining the traditional folkloric event in the community hall.
It is a short event that locals organize for visitors to get an insight into their traditional music and dance. After the event, you will be returning to your respective house for a well-deserved rest.
You will be meeting the host family in the morning at the dining area for breakfast. After breakfast, we will be hiking back to the boat pier where we will be embarking on a ride to Taquile Island.
Taquile Island Peru nestles at 3950 meters above sea level (12959 ft). As we dock into the pier, the guide will be giving you an introduction to distinct species of birds found here. We will begin with a hike up the hill to the main plaza which is also the viewpoint.
The distance from the boat pier in Taquile to the main plaza is 8.2 kilometers (5 Miles). The hike is mostly up the hill and takes around an hour. We strongly recommend that you leave your belongings at your hotel or at our office and just carry a day pack.
Along the way up, you will be getting a panoramic view of Lake Titicaca. You will also see many locals dressed in their traditional attire doing their daily chores.
We will have a brief stop along the way where our tour guide along with the village head will be explaining the process of dyeing and knitting the wool. You will be getting a detailed introduction to the life and tradition of locals here.
After experiencing the essence of nature and culture during the full-day tour, we will be serving lunch at a restaurant overlooking the shimmering waters of Lake Titicaca. If you have any special meal requests then please let us know at the time of booking the tour.
After lunch, at 0230 in the afternoon, we will embark on the boat for our ride back to Puno. We will reach by 0430 in the evening.
Our representative will meet you on arrival at the boat pier and will transfer you to your hotel in the center of Puno city.
